Recently, I have returned to a love of drawing animal portraits.  I grew up rather hopelessly in love with horses, constantly reading about them and writing stories that included lots of illustrations.  When I was a child, our family always had a dog at any given time, and later in life I have had several cats as well as more dogs, all of whom became my good friends! 

Before doing a pet portrait, I like getting to know the animal I’m drawing, either in person or by studying several photos.  Clients can even fill out a “Pet Personality” Questionnaire so that I might capture that “special something” about them!  If I have enough photo references, I will make 2 or 3 quick sketches of the pet to give the client a choice of poses.  (See the examples of “Daisy” below.)
